Tequila.
I can’t really think of a reason not to.
Unless of course you consider that it’s Monday and we are suppose to be acting like responsible adults. But that’s no fun. No fun at all.
Instead, let’s focus our attention on the fact that Cinco de Mayo is right around the corner. So we should be consuming as much tequila as possible between now and then. Also, we have to seriously step up our avocado and tortilla chip game.
Since I’m feeling super lazy lately (lately = all the time), I decided to take care of all three of those things with one single recipe: Tequila-Spiked Mango and Avocado Salsa. I kid you not.
I really didn’t think salsa could get any better than it all ready was. But then I got the idea to soak the mangos in tequila and well, I bet you know exactly what I’m about to say next. IT GOT BETTER! Like whoa. This is salsa on steroids. Wait. No. This is salsa on tequila. But like in a good, fun way. Not in a sloppy, falling down on the floor kind of way. This is salsa after just 1 or 2 shots of tequila. Not 6. We are keeping it classy here, folks.
Obviously, I think you should make this for Cinco de Mayo. But why stop there? This Tequila-Spiked Mango and Avocado Salsa is going to be your new summer time go-to party snack. I can just feel it. Or maybe I’m just feeling some of the tequila. I don’t know. It’s hard to tell the difference at this point.
{insert brilliant segue here}
In totally unrelated news, I’m heading up to Vermont this week for Camp Gathering Vermont 2015, hosted by Sweet and Simple Magazine at one of Vermont’s premier destinations, Topnotch Resort. I’ll be hanging with some crazy talented food bloggers, writers and photographers. And of course, indulging in the local food scene and exploring all the beauty that the area has to offer. Make sure to check out the hashtag #CampGatheringVT to see what we’re up to and what we’re eating (hint: it will involve a lot of maple syrup).
Cheers,
Liz
Ingredients
- 2 champagne mangos (also sometimes called honey mangos)
- 1/4 cup tequila
- 2 avocados
- 1 small red onion, peeled and diced
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, roughly chopped
- 1 jalapeño pepper, diced
- Zest and juice from 1/2 lime
- 1 tsp. agave nectar
Instructions
- Peel the champagne mangos and slice the flesh away from the pit. Dice the flesh and place it in a medium bowl. Pour the tequila over the diced mango. Toss gently to coat. Cover and refrigerator for about 1 hour.
- Cut the avocados in half. Remove and discard the seeds. Scoop the avocado flesh from the peel and dice it. Add the diced avocado to the bowl with the tequila-soaked mangos. Add the diced red onion, cilantro, jalapeño pepper, lime zest and juice and agave nectar. Toss gently to combine.
- Serve immediately with tortilla chips. Or cover and refrigerate for up to 6 hours before serving.
Wow tequila salsa sounds like a genius idea, Liz! Love it! And the mangos and avocados sound perfect! I think I could dive right into this bowl for breakfast!
Ha ha. Well, then you might be a little buzzed at breakfast time. But I won’t tell. It’s our secret.
Tequila is always a good idea…especially on a Monday. Love this refreshing salsa.
Totally always a good idea. This is why we are friends, Jennie!
Yum! I use a similar recipe from Sprouted Kitchen minus the tequila but I can imagine how good this would be with it!

I hope you try it with some tequila next time! Thanks, Catherine!
What a great idea! So pretty 🙂
Thanks, Jennifer!
Yaaaay I hope you have a blast in Vermont! I’m so envious! Love this boozy salsa – It just makes so much sense to add tequila…but keep it classy…slash, I may end up adding approx. 4 to 5 shots for good measure 😉
Oh we are super classy. Because it’s Monday. But on Friday’s, I think we should get a little CRAZY!
I’ve never been to Vermont! Sounds like a dream. Now, pass me the entire bowl of this salsa!
Oh you would like VT! Let’s go and eat salsa while we’re there!
Sorry, tequila? In salsa? You’re a genius.
Not a genius yet. Approaching genius level though…
Liz, you just won the award for the BEST Cinco de Mayo recipe .. Tequila-Spiked Mango and Avocado Salsa?!!!! freaking love this! And Camp Gathering Vermont sounds so fun!!! post lots of pics!
ALICE! Oh my gawd! What are you saying!!! That is awesome. I will totally and graciously accept this award. XOXO
Tequila and avocado in salsa? I think I just fell in love!
Me too. Then I had too much tequila and fell down. Just being honest…
This looks amazing, I need this in my life right NOW. And SO perfect for Cinco de Mayo 🙂
Have fun in Vermont!
Thanks, Sam! I hope you give it a try!
We both have tequila on our minds today! I would love a side of this salsa with my tequila chicken. Have fun in Vermont!
Because we are freaking brilliant, that is why. Ha ha ha. Just being my totally humble self over here. XO
You totally found a way to make salsa better – I didn’t think that was possible!! Yeah, dudette!!
GURL! I heart you soooo much. Miss you tons!
I love you and your boozy recipes!!! Mango salsa and tequila are two of my fav things and you just combined them!
And I love you too, Sara! XO
I LOVE that you put tequila in your salsa. Genius 🙂
Thanks! I hope you give it a try! 🙂
I think I got drunk just reading your post and looking at your pictures. SUCCESS! Also, you go on so many fun trips!!! Making me envious!! 🙂
Ha ha. I might have been drunk when I wrote it. No. Just kidding. That would be totally inappropriate! GAH!
Hurray for Cinco de Mayo! I think I get ALMOST as excited for Cinco de May as I do about Thanksgiving and Christmas. I love an excuse to eat ridiculous amounts of Mexican food and consume more margaritas than what’s socially acceptable. Soaking the mango in tequila is pretty much the most genius thing I’ve heard in weeks, and I’m SO trying this next time!
Right? Margaritas and Mexican food is way better than turkey. Let me know if you try it out, Nicole!
Ahhh that trip sounds gorgeous and amazing and I’m going to need a GIANT mixing bowl full of this salsa pleaseandthankyou!
Coming right up friend. I’m ready to get tipsy with you!
I seriously need this recipe at my Cinco de mayo party!
Yeah you do! 🙂
Tequila! Who want to be a responsible adult? Not me! Let’s party with this awesome and gorgeous salsa. Thank goodness we are keeping things classy!
Oh yeah. Always keeping it classy! Thanks, girlfriend! 🙂
Liz, this sounds AMAZING! I can’t wait to make some this week. Well done!
Thanks, Anetta. I know you’ll love it!

The only thing I don’t like about this salsa is that I didn’t think of it first. Haha! Love the tequila. I am so making this! Pinning. Have a great time this week, Liz!
Ha ha! You made me laugh, Thao! I just know you are going to love it! XO
Not gonna lie, I get a little sloppy after just one or two shots of tequila…which might be a problem when I eat this whole bowl. But…a risk worth taking!
Um yeah. I’m not going to lie either – so do I. I’m a total lightweight = cheap date. I might have gotten buzzed when I shoved this whole bowl of salsa into my face. 🙂
I’ll take this please and you’ll need to carry me home… #lightweight… Delicious and genius, Liz! ! Sounds like your off for another fabulous trip! I’ll be following….
I’m a lightweight too. So we need someone to carry both of us!
Hope you have a blast in Vermont. Also, tequila is perfectly fine to start off your Monday 🙂
Thanks, Meagan. Glad you are on board with tequila Mondays! XO
Boozy salsa in the beginning of the week is totally a YES from this gal! This looks so ultra-fresh and spoon-worthy, Liz!
All the yeses! Thanks, Sarah!
Yea, I think I would need uber on speed dial for this recipe… I don’t think I’d be able to stop eating! Great recipe! Is Camp Gathering a food blogging convention?
Ha ha. Me too! Camp Gathering is a small group (about 8 of us) of food bloggers and writers exploring Vermont’s local food scene.
Champagne mangos are my latest rage 🙂 I am the only one that loves them in my house but too bad for them, more salsa for me. Lovely recipe Liz 🙂
Champagne mangos are my favorite and I can’t wait until they arrive every day. So good! Glad you love the salsa, Kathy!
This is perfect for summer and cinco de mayo! Yum! Have fun in Vermont! I love it there!
Thanks, Bri! I love Vermont too. One of my favorite places!
So, I’m absolutely in love with this salsa. This would be a great way to start the weekend off right! Olé!
Oh yeah! You got the right idea, Erin! 🙂
Hope you’re having fun in Vermont, lady!! Mangos soaked in tequila….LOVE it. I can always rely on you to get my booze on.
Ha ha. Guess I’m making a name for myself with the boozy recipes! XO
This looks awesome! I love avocados and mango together 🙂
Thanks, Medha! I hope you try it out!
This looks so bright and fresh!
Thanks, Amanda! Let me know if you try it!
What a fantastic salsa! I love to make mango salsa for topping fish tacos, but have never thought of adding a little tequila. Love the way you think, Liz!! 😉
Oh this would be perfect on top of fish or chicken! YUM!
Hi! I just created a blog about healthy living with my friend. The two of us are completely new to this so any reply at all would help. We were wondering if you would check our blog out. Our blog is freshlychoppedgreens.wordpress.com. Thank you so much, your blog is inspiring!
